Netflix has a new series out called Jessica Jones based on Marvel Comic’s gritty character. Jessica Jones is a reluctant superhero who spends more time battling her own demons than saving lives. A victim of super villain Killgrave, a man who speaks his wishes and others obey. Helpless to resist Killgrave’s power, Jessica became a pawn for his murderous plots, committing crimes she wrestles to come to terms with now. Free from his influence, she starts her own private investigative agency in between drinking binges.
Unable to live with her past, Jones is set on a path of self-destruction, until Killgrave returns to exact revenge.
This is one of those series I binge-watched, and quite enjoyed. Jones’ character makes the show enthralling and reminds me of a female Batman, minus the mansion and fortune. Most of us can relate to Jones’ self-loathing to a degree, but she takes it to the extreme.
In the original comic book series, Jessica Jones was a member of the Avengers, first appearing in 2003.
