Paramount’s Transformers: The Last Knight holds the title as the #1 movie at the weekend box office. Although the newest Transformers are winning at the box office, it’s actually their franchise low. Within it’s five day domestic debut the film brought in a low $69.1 million, becoming the first Transformer movie to not open to $100 million or more. Paramount dished out $217 million into making the summer sequel, reportedly the highest budget of the franchise.
Luckily, the film performed much better overseas, bringing in $196 million internationally. The question is was the film made more for the international crowd? In China alone, The Last Knight brought in $123 million.
Transformers: The Last Knight tells a new story of Optimus Prime. In this sequel Prime finds his home planet, Cybertron, is now a dead planet. He founds out that he is responsible for killing his home, and finds a way to bring the planet back to life. In order to do so he needs to find an artifact, and that artifact is on Earth.
