Los Angeles also known as La La Land is a beautiful place for creative people to meet and thrive. Most creatives in Los Angeles have to work a day/odd jobs to afford to keep up with their bills and do what they love. The main characters in the musical film La La Land are a prime example of this underdog scenario. What happens in between them working their odd jobs, is what really makes this film captivating.
Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, serves lattes to movie stars in between auditions and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a jazz musician, scrapes by playing cocktail party gigs in dingy bars. As they both work to pursue their dreams and begin to reach successful heights they fall in love, but is love enough? Or will their success pull their love affair apart? The struggle to balance their love affair is extremely realistic, while the harmonious soundtrack and beautiful setting keeps the viewers senses thoroughly entertained.
The beauty and realness of La La Land continuously captivates viewers and critics, and has been the focus of many awards and award nominations. At the 2017 Golden Globe Awards La La Land took home all seven of the awards for which it received nominations. The awards included best motion picture – musical or comedy, best director, best screenplay, best score and acting awards for its stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. Just today, Oscar voters put La La Land up for 14 nominations a tie with “Titanic” and “All About Eve” for the most in Academy Award history.
Although La La Land was first only available in select theaters, the popularity of the film has made it accessible to view at your local theater. If you haven’t already saw musical film, check out the Oscar Best Picture front-runner La La Land trailer below.
