Independence Day Resurgence is Coming to a Theater Near You

Independence Day Resurgence is set to hit theaters on June 24, 2016, and trailers are beginning to hit the Internet. What’s is about? Much like the first Independence Day movie, there’s an extinction level crisis that Earth must dodge.

“Using recovered extraterrestrial technology, the nations of Earth collaborate on an immense defense program to protect the planet. When the aliens attack with unprecedented force, only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can save the world”

Many of your favorite characters from the first movie will be returning, like Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman, but one noticeable absence is Will Smith. Reportedly, Will Smith backed out his role in the second movie after filming After Earth since the plots are (sort of) similar in that Will’s character must guide his young son to safety through alien threats on Earth.

Basically, Will thought it was a little redundant to do both roles. I think fans could have handled a second, similar role since Independence Day was such a hit and switching out characters in a sequel never seems to work. But it appears Will’s fear that playing similar roles so close together would hurt his career won out and we’re left with a script re-write that explains Smith’s character’s disappearance from the movie.

Even without Smith, the movie promises to be an entertaining film, filled with stars and plenty of action to keep moviegoers on the edge of their seats.

You can watch Independence Day on Amazon Instant, Vudu, or MaxGo.
