Not everyone is a fan of being scared out of their wits and the blood and gore just isn’t appealing to some people. But that doesn’t mean they can’t celebrate with a Halloween movie fest of their own. Here are Halloween movies you can watch that won’t scare your socks off.

 

How many have you seen? Which ones are yearly favorites in your home?

It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown has been a yearly favorite for me since childhood. I think I’d add Little Shop of Horrors to the list. Feed Me Seymour is simply a fall classic here.

The film was shot in the United Kingdom at Bray Studios and on location at an old country estate named Oakley Court, best known for its use in old Hammer Horror productions. A number of props and set pieces were reused from old Hammer films. Although the movie is both a send-up and tribute to many of the science fiction and horror movies from the 1930s up to the 1970s, costume designer Sue Blane conducted no research for her designs. Blane stated that costumes from the film have directly impacted the development of punk music fashion trends such as ripped fishnets and dyed hair.

The movie was originally developed at Orion Pictures. But due to the studio’s financial problems, Paramount Pictures stepped in to complete the film and handled North American distribution, with Orion retaining the international rights. The film debuted in Los Angeles on November 16, 1991. It opened internationally on November 22, 1991, on the same day as An American Tail: Fievel Goes West and Beauty and the Beast and received positive reviews. It was followed by a sequel, Addams Family Values, two years later.

At the same time, he has to cope with an apocalyptic uprising of zombies. The film was a critical and commercial success in the UK and the US. It received a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 76 out of 100 at Metacritic. Shaun of the Dead was also a BAFTA nominee. Pegg and Wright considered a sequel that would replace zombies with another monster, but decided against it as they were pleased with the first film as a stand-alone product, and thought too many characters died to continue the story. The film is the first in Wright and Pegg’s Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, followed by 2007’s Hot Fuzz and 2013’s The World’s End.

Supporting roles are portrayed by Winona Ryder, Dianne Wiest, Anthony Michael Hall, Kathy Baker, Vincent Price and Alan Arkin. Burton conceived the idea for Edward Scissorhands from his childhood upbringing in suburban Burbank, California. During pre-production of Beetlejuice, Caroline Thompson was hired to adapt Burton’s story into a screenplay, and the film began development at 20th Century Fox, after Warner Bros. passed on the project. Edward Scissorhands was then fast tracked after Burton’s success with Batman. Before Depp’s casting, the leading role of Edward had been connected to Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Robert Downey, Jr. and William Hurt, while the role of The Inventor was written specifically for Vincent Price. The majority of filming took place in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida between March and June 1990.
