Hearts across the world broke in 2008 when Heath Ledger was tragically announced dead at the young age of 28. Yesterday marked what would have been his 38th birthday, and in order to honor him the first trailer was released of a behind-the-scenes documentary called I am Heath Ledger. The documentary will premiere on April 23 at the Tribeca Film Festival, and then get a limited theatrical run beginning on May 3rd — mark your calendars ladies and gentlemen.
The documentary is put together from a mass of never-before-seen at home videos shot by himself, as well as interviews from family, friends & collaborators like his sister Kate Ledger, or musician and friend Ben Harper. The home videos give us a look into his desire to one day be a successful director, his struggle with his fame, and the overwhelming impact he had as an actor. The documentary also shows clips of some of the films he took part in like, 10 Things I Hate About You or Brokeback Mountain — and it demonstrates to us what an immaculate career he might have continued to had.
Capturing our hearts even further, his friends explain this different side of him that the audience never really got to know. Harper said he was “the most alive human, and if it wasn’t the edge, it didn’t interest him.”
Yes, Heath, we will go on a mission with you.
